5th International Conference on Social Solidarity and the Commons CEI-ISCTE Lisbon

Call for Papers
We invite contributions to the 5th International Conference on Social Solidarity and the Commons CEI-ISCTE Lisbon. This year’s theme is “Collapse and regeneration: community-led initiatives prefiguring livable futures” and we seek contributions that explore the role of CLIs in rebuilding livelihoods and institutions in the following contexts (7 thematic fields):
- The aftermath of environmental catastrophes.
- Armed conflicts and peace-building initiatives.
- Weakening of the rule of law and emergence of parallel government structures based on organized crime.
- Culture wars, political polarization and radicalization (especially in the context of the resurgence of the far right and threats to the rights of women, girls and LGBTQI+ populations).
- Support grassroots resistance to authoritarianism, marginalization, and oppression, specifically through embodied activism and trauma-informed practices.
- Promote grassroots-led transnational cooperation in a context of increasing isolationism and fragmentation of the world order.
- To problematize current trends in the application and use of information technologies for collective action, as well as to promote their democratization and accountability.
The call is open to researchers, activists, public officials and social entrepreneurs and activists involved in community-led initiatives (CLI), social and solidarity economy, governance of the commons and new social movements (e.g. NGOs, non-profit organizations, networks, activist movements) in different parts of the world.
For this edition, SSE is accepting:
- abstracts of papers (research papers or experience reports from practitioners or activists),
- session panels and/or
- book presentation proposals on topics related to the seven conference themes.
